Environmentalists and Business Leaders Take the Climate Express to Copenhagen

Kyoto/Barcelona, 5 November 2009 - More than 400 climate change negotiators, business leaders and environmental activists will travel together on board the Climate Express train to Copenhagen in a call for world leaders to agree a fair, ambitious and binding deal to address climate change when they meet at the UN climate summit in Denmark.

Affordable homes to become renewable with £5m share of Government Grant

An initiative aimed at increasing the use of renewable construction materials in affordable homes has been agreed by DECC (Department of Energy and Climate Change) and the government’s housing and regeneration body the HCA (Homes and Communities Agency). DECC has provided funding under the Low Carbon Investment Fund, which will be administered through the HCA’s National Affordable Housing Programme.

New nuclear power could supply every home in the UK

A third potential new nuclear operator entered the UK market today, taking total proposals for new nuclear power stations up to 16 gigawatts of electricity. A consortium of GDF SUEZ SA, Iberdrola SA and Scottish and Southern Energy Plc has secured an option to purchase land for the development of a new nuclear power station at Sellafield.
DECC signs up to 10:10 campaign

The Department of Energy and Climate Change has today reaffirmed its pledge to cut its own carbon emissions by signing up to the 10:10 campaign. The Department will now cut emissions by 10% in 2010 on top of an existing commitment to reduce emissions by 10% in the financial year 2009/10.
