The Terna Group
Headquartered in the Italian capital city of Rome, Terna is a major operator of electricity transmission grids. It has been listed on the Italian Stock Exchange since 2004. Terna is a group of international dimensions, and is present mainly in Italy and Brazil, where it operates through its subsidiary, Terna Participações S.A., which is listed on the San Paolo Stock Exchange. In Italy Terna is the principal owner of the national high voltage electricity grid, and is responsible for the transmission of electricity throughout the country. With its 42,000 kilometres of transmission lines, Terna is one of the largest Transmission System Operators (TSOs) in the world.

Mission and responsibility
Terna’s principal activity is the transmission of electricity on extra-high voltage lines that connect power stations to distributors’ grids. In Italy Terna owns over 98 per cent of the national transmission grid, and its service is essential to ensuring the supply of electricity to the whole population. Even though the end-consumers are not its direct customers, Terna realises its responsibility towards society as a whole, and is fully aware that although the transmission grid is an asset of the company, it also forms an essential part of the infrastructure of the country. This responsible view of Terna’s mission is also evident in the continuous attention it devotes to its impact on the environment and landscape.
